The spring sky dance of the American Woodcock is a grand performance not to be missed.  This program will begin with an indoor presentation on the life history of this fascinating game bird.  We will conclude the program with a short, twilight walk to an area of Howell Woods that serves as a staging area for the spectacular breeding display of the American Woodcock.  The males perform an aerial courtship display, flying spirally upward while creating a twittering sound with its flight feathers.  If you have never heard the peent of the American Woodcock or viewed their sky dance, you have missed one of spring’s greatest endearing secrets.
