| Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site is pleased to present “War So Terrible,” a Civil War Medical Living History Program on March 17-18, 2012. Throughout both days, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the grounds around the Harper House will host Civil War medical re-enactors, and modern state of the art military field hospitals. Compare and contrast the treatment received by soldiers during the Civil War with the treatment that our wounded warriors now receive in Iraq and Afghanistan. Artillery demonstrations, musket drills, and home-front demonstrations will take place throughout the day. Nighttime Hospital Tours: Saturday Evening Only (March 17) 7:00 pm-10:30 pm
The Harper House and grounds will be transformed back in time to the 14th Corps Field Hospital as it may have looked on that first night of the battle, 147 years ago. Tour guides will lead visitors on a historical journey by candle light as they search for loved ones that were injured in the fighting. Re-enactors will portray surgeons and medical personnel working inside the Harper House, as well as soldiers wounded in battle as they await treatment. Tours will run every 15 minutes beginning at 7:00 pm with the last tour leaving at 10:15 pm. 30 tickets will be sold for each time slot, and visitors can select their own tour time as long as it is not sold out. Tickets may only be purchased the day of the event. The cost is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students with a student ID. Due to the graphic nature of this program, parental discretion is advised.
