For enjoying the performing arts in Johnston County we encourage you to frequently check our calendar of events to see what local, regional or national acts may be in town at either the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium or Neuse Little Theatre in Smithfield, The Clayton Center in historic downtown Clayton or the W. J. Barefoot Auditorium in Benson. The Farm Entertainment Venue just opened last year and is hosting national country and beach music concerts.
For a touch of glamor and Hollywood film heritage, visit the Ava Gardner Museum in downtown Smithfield, which pays tribute to native daughter and screen legend, Ava Gardner. The museum is home to an incredible collection including scripts, photos, costumes, and personal effects of the star, who was born seven miles east of Smithfield. The Tom Banks Library holds a collection of portraits painted by Dutch artist, Bert Pfeiffer, colorful and quirky, they are a favorite of visitors to the museum.
Several local art studios and the Frank Creech Art Gallery at the Johnston Community College campus in Smithfield and Clayton Visual Arts shows held in the lobby of The Clayton Center showcase local artists and their talents all year round.
For a touch of Branson and Myrtle Beach musical theatre, the Town of Selma is home to the American Music Jubilee Theatre which performs weekly with a ten-member cast. Visitors enjoy country, rock classics, and gospel…all wrapped up with a touch of comedy!
