The charming town of Benson, population 3,600 will welcome approximately 50,000 visitors September 26-29, 2013 for the 64th Annual Benson Mule Days Celebration. Visitors traverse around town on horses, mules, wagons, campers and a variety of unusual equine contraptions celebrating the farming tradition of the Mule.
The kick off event held September 26 will be the Family Night at the Chamber Park & Arena with a Barrell Exhibition scheduled for 6pm, followed by an Open Barrell Race at 8pm. Also on Thursday night enjoy music at the Singing Grove, with Blue River Band at 6pm and Boe Edens with the Dixie Driver Band at 7pm.
The SRA Double Creek Rodeo Company will host the Friday night Rodeo at Chamber Park beginning at 7:30pm. Admission charged. After the Rodeo all ages are invited to the Mule Day Dance featuring CC Ryder Band at the new location, 704 S. Wall Street.
On September 27, enjoy the “Mule Competitions” beginning at 9:30am, including mule pulls, jumping, mule race, and Best of Show. The “Grand Champion Mule” is chosen and will lead the parade on Saturday, September 28th beginning at 10:00 AM.
Following the parade, McDonald’s Live Bluegrass Afternoon features The Grass Cats at 12:30-3:00 pm at the Benson Singing Grove with arts and crafts vendors, a carnival with a midway, fair food and rides. The Trailblazers will perform a 4pm at the Grove featuring Old Original Cowboy Music by Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers. Rodeos presented by SRA Double Creek Rodeo Company will be held on Friday night, Saturday Night and on Sunday, a Youth Rodeo at 2pm.
The Saturday night Mule Days Dance will featuring Amanda Daughtry beginning at 9pm at the new location. Admission charged.
