Visitors Bureau Administrative Offices

I.Call to Order – E Brame, Chairman

E Brame called the meeting to order at 12:20pm and stated that a quorum was present. With no corrections, the agenda was adopted. Brame also welcomed new board member, Joe Stallings to the meeting. Brame asked for a motion to accept the December minutes that were previously sent to the Board.

M Boyette motioned to accept the December minutes as presented.T Stewart seconded.Motion passed unanimously.


December Financials

Month-to-Date Revenue for November was $58,155.56. Month-to-Date Operations were $63,485.28. Net Income for the month was -$5,329.72. (Revenues appear down due to Smithfield not depositing revenues on time). Year-to-Date Revenues were $467,787.30. Year-to-Date Operations were $388,921.45. Year-to-Date net income was $78,865.85. The November revenues were $47,646.71. Smithfield’s November Revenues were $13,913.93. Selma’s November Revenues were $6,760.03. Kenly’s November Revenues were $1,999.73.Benson’s November Revenues were $500.10.

IV. Special Projects Committee – T Stewart

D Bailey-Taylor presented a Special Events Grant request for the Classic Antique Power & Tractor Show in the amount of $500. Discussion was had that this was an event that had received grants in the past and met the requirements.

T Stewart made a motion to grant Classic Antique Power & Tractor Show a grant in the amount of $500. B Dixon seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

D Bailey-Taylor stated that she had two more meetings scheduled about Capital Grants with county parks and recreation departments. It was decided that Special Projects Committee would meet in February to discuss results.

V. Marketing Committee – D Bailey-Taylor

There was no Marketing Committee meeting in the month of December. D Bailey-Taylor informed that board that the new kiosks would be installed next week at the outlet center.

VI. Sports Council Committee – J Godfrey

J Godfrey stated that the Sports Council Committee would be meeting next week.

VII. Staff Report – D Bailey-Taylor

D Bailey-Taylor reported the following:

  • Meeting with Jenn Beedle about funding for Recreation Master Plan. The Bureau was receiving application questions and the applications are due next week.
  • The Smithfield Wayfinding Task Force had met once and the assessment project should be completed in March.

  • The new visitors guide will be shipped January 9 to mail house and various drop shipments to welcome centers around the state.

  • Prep for the NY Media Mission featuring the Broadslab Distillery and Johnston County Wineries is well underway.

  • Brewery information for NC Beer Month that will be held the month of April will be featured in site as well as a new landing page has been created and links off the county website.

  • Johnston County will host the Tourism Partners Roundtable on Jan 31st to bring together attractions, hotels and event planners to work with JCVB.

  • CPO Visitor Kiosk ready to install and D Bailey-Taylor invited the board back to the front visitor center area to see them.

  • The Royal Inn has been sold and will begin renovations soon.

  • Staff attended the AENC tradeshow in December with the new Meeting Facilities guide where 350+ planners were in attendance.Approximately 150 planners stopped by the JCVB booth and a direct mail piece is going out this week as follow-up.
  • The Our State Magazine weekend at Grove Park Inn was held Jan. 4th and the keynote speaker made a presentation on Ava Gardner.JCVB shipped up the Ava pop-up and 1,000 BOGO free brochures.

E. Brame encouraged members to invite the JCTA board to a new attraction or facility in and around the county and stated that the board will gladly move the monthly meeting around the county.
