BOARD MEETING MINUTES
12 Noon, Wednesday, June 4, 2014

I.          Call to Order – E Brame, Chairman

E Brame called the meeting to order at 12:18 pm and stated that a quorum was present. With no corrections, the agenda was adopted. Brame asked for a motion to accept the May minutes that were previously sent to the board.

B Dixon motioned to accept the May minutes as presented.  M Boyette seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

II.        Finances - May Financials - D Bailey-Taylor

Month-to-Date Revenue for May was $110,783.87. Month-to-Date Operations were $114,107.05. Net Income for the month was -$3,323.18. Year-to-Date Revenues were $858,098.79. Year-to-Date Operations were $799,011.30. Year-to-Date net income was $59,087.49. The April revenues were $60,468.89. Smithfield’s April Revenues were $19,181.08. Selma’s April Revenues were $8,774.38. Kenly’s April Revenues were $2,238.65.  Benson’s April Revenues were $852.96.  D Bailey-Taylor noted all town revenues were current with tax deposits. E Brame stated that economy is up and the quality of our facilities are good. E Brame stated that the county had approved a 2.2% wage increase for employees.

III.        Special Projects Committee – T Stewart

None.

IV.       Marketing Committee – S Henley

S Henley stated that E Dean was continuing work on the new JCVB website concept, working on the functionality for the new template. The new website will incorporate the blog as searchable content which will help in our Google searches. The Beer, Wine, and Shine Trail brochure has gone to the printer. The 301 Endless Yard Sale will include a survey for the vendors and for visitor feedback. The survey will be available on websites, Facebook, emails and at local hotels. The JCVB staff has met with Studio RTP a couple of times. They are currently running an audit on our websites to help with SEO, and these recommendations will be used for building the new site. The blog that was free standing will be located on the new website. The committee also looked at possible names for the new bike routes that have been established . A JoCo Bike Route Map will be designed and distributed through the state website as well as our own websites.

V.       Sports Council Committee – J Godfrey

J Godfrey stated the kick off meeting for the Parks & Recreation Master Plan was a great success with representation from all county municipalities and various athletic associations throughout the county.  D Bailey-Taylor stated input for the survey and inventory matrix was due by June 4th and the SageDesign will be in the county the week of June 16th conducting inventory of facilities. Bike routes have been approved by most towns, those pending will meet early this month and provide us a Resolution of Support. E Brame stated that he hopes the Johnston County Parks & Recreation Master Plan would get a result that will let the county go forward.

VI.     Staff Report – D Bailey-Taylor

D Bailey-Taylor reported that Smithfield Wayfinding project is coming to a close. With the 301 Endless Yard Sale less than 3 weeks away, PR will increase on radio, TV and newspaper. The new JCVB website will be more content driven with BLOG and calendar content. The Visitor Kiosk Program will be restructured. It will be coupon/deal driven for hotels, restaurants, attractions and shopping. D Bailey-Taylor is working with the county attorney on the issue of the Benson billboard due to the death of Mr. Curtis Williams and the issues of his estate settlement. D Bailey-Taylor is recommending the JoCo Hospitality Committee meet four times per year to discuss countywide tourism issues. D Bailey-Taylor is in the process of writing by laws and goals for the Hospitality Committee. October 2014 will be set for the second meeting with follow up to the Board on local partners' input.

D Bailey-Taylor plans to meet with Trent Lassiter, owner of  The Farm, to discuss the economic impact of the resent Scotty McCreery concert.
