I.          Call to Order – E Brame, Chairman

E Brame called the meeting to order at 12:15 pm and stated that a quorum was present. With no corrections, the agenda was adopted. Brame welcomed Matt Zapp, Town Manager of Benson, to the board.

Brame asked for a motion to accept the February minutes that were previously sent to the board.

K Henthorn motioned to accept the February minutes as presented.  W Stancil seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

II.        Finances - February Financials - D Bailey-Taylor

Month-to-Date Revenue for February was $69,666.85. Month-to-Date Operations were $53,637.31. Net Income for the month was $16,029.54. Year-to-Date Revenues were $674,138.43. Year-to-Date Operations were $582,557.37. Year-to-Date net income was $91,581.06. The January county revenues were $47,715.19. Smithfield’s January Revenues were $14,409.96. Selma’s January Revenues were $6,781.28. Kenly’s January Revenues were $1,717.48.  Benson’s January Revenues were $552.00.  Kenly and Smithfield's deposits were not received in time for the financial report.

III.       Special Projects - D Bailey-Taylor

D Bailey-Taylor asked the board to review and consider approval of a special event grant that had been received at the bureau. The grant request was for the Town of Benson July 4th Celebration. Taylor stated that the requests were within the guidelines and eligible for $500.

L Daniels motioned to approve the requests as presented.  K Brinson seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

IV.       Marketing Committee

S Henley shared an abbreviated review of the marketing minutes. The marketing committee reviewed the first draft of the budget for 2015-16. They will work on details in March and present to the full board for review and approval. D Bailey-Taylor stated that she had met with Chris Johnson and Mike Fleming about picking back up the branding project for Johnston County. DBT is talking to Chris Cavanaugh with Magellan Strategy Group on cost.

D Bailey-Taylor stated that the JoCo Hospitality Association's first meeting was successful. Membership is at 45 and growing. The group participated in the meeting by sharing what hospitality meant for their business. Loretta Byrd was elected as chairman of the group. The dates for the upcoming meetings are: April 28, July 28 and October 27. Each meeting will begin at 2pm and be held in the Lampe Meeting Room.    

V.        Sports Council Committee

J Godfrey stated that the Johnston County Parks & Recreation Master Plan has been rescheduled for  Wednesday, March 18th at 10 AM at the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium. The presentation will be made by SageDesign and is open to the public. DBT stated that Bike Route Brochures were being distributed locally and will be sent to the Welcome Centers once they have been approved by the Div. of Tourism. 

VI.       Staff Report

D Bailey-Taylor stated that February had been challenging with the weather. Several meetings had to be rescheduled. The Governor's Conference is coming up and DBT, E Brame, A Brame and J Godfrey will be attending. Work has continued on Bentonville and 301 Endless Yard Sale. The Town of Selma Marketing committee will begin meeting the 2nd Thursday of each month at 9am to discuss wayfinding. D Bailey-Taylor reminded the Special Projects Committee that they will meet March 11 to discuss the budget for 2015/16.  D Bailey-Taylor and A Brame visited with the Rocky Mount Tourism group to confirm they will be participating in the 301 Endless Yard Sale.  D Bailey-Taylor confirmed who would be the new contact in Benson, M Zapp said it will be the new Economic Development hire Karissa Bergeman.  D Bailey-Taylor indicated articles from the travel writer hosted in January will be coming out this week in the Winston-Salem Journal.  The staff is currently handling the public relations and media credentials for the Bentonville Reenactment.  D Bailey-Taylor announced that after several years, the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill CVBs will include Johnston County Arts on the website. D Bailey-Taylor wanted to report the results of the Facebook campaign from January giving UNC/State basketball tickets away netted 1,600 new likes on the JoCoVisitorsBureau FB page.  A Brame is currently training for her job and Sarah Campbell will be joining the staff on March 16th.

VII.     Meeting Changes

The next board meeting will be held on April 8th at the Visitors Bureau Administrative Office. The May meeting will be held on May 6th at the Clayton Chamber Building. The August 5th meeting will be held at the Benson Town Hall.
