State Annual Singing Convention - “Benson Sing” Celebrating 100 Years
Benson, NC (June 2th, 2021) – The 100th State Annual Singing Convention will be held Friday-Sunday, June 25-27, 2021, in the “Singing Grove”, a beautiful city park at 400 East Main Street in Benson, North Carolina. Everyone is invited to Benson for a wonderful weekend of celebration for this Centennial Year with special concerts, a reunion meet and greet, a new schedule of events, and there will be no awards or competition this year. All events are free and all COVID protocols will be followed.
Combined choirs from many area churches under the leadership of Sonia Hines, Justin Powell, and Todd Johnson will each present a thirty-minute concert on Friday, June 25, starting at 7:00 PM. Joey Gore and the Wilmington Celebration Choir will close the evening with a special concert at 8:45 PM.
On Saturday, June 26, at 9:00 PM, the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce and the 2020 Board of Directors and their families will host a reunion/meet and greet session for descendants of the original founders and families of all former and current directors. Retired and active singers from past conventions, former and present staff and volunteers, and former and present sponsors are invited to attend.
Concerts featuring past convention award winning groups begin at 10:00 AM and continue through the day on Saturday until 6:00 PM. These following talented groups will be performing: The Joys (VA), Whitman-Gore, PALS for Christ, The Blythe Family, The Master’s Hands, The Horell Family, Crimson Cross, Hickory Grove Quartet, Oxendine Family, Trinity Quartet, Crusaders of NC, The Griffins (SC), The Dunns (VA), Called Out, The Hinshaw Family, Full Reliance, Tate and Marthieah, Divine Intervention, and The Montgomery Family. At 6PM Wesley Pritchard and the Fayetteville Community Church Worship Team will take the stage for a stirring concert. From 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, one of the most popular and beloved male quartets in Southern Gospel music, will be featured in a special concert. Their unmistakable four-part harmonies and unique presentation make them one of the most celebrated gospel quartets in the world. A round robin session will follow at 9:00 PM.
A special 100th year combined community worship service is scheduled for 10:30 AM on Sunday, June 27. There will be congregational hymns and Mark Trammell will be delivering the message. The Mark Trammell Quartet will also be singing. A round robin session and lunch on the grounds follows from Noon until 1:00 PM. The 100th Convention Choir sings at 2:30 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:10 PM. The Temple Choir, the 2019 Grand Champions, will be in concert at 3:30 PM. To conclude the 100th year celebration, America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music, The Hoppers, will present our final weekend concert at 4:00 PM.
All weekend sessions will be free. A huge tent with seating will be provided for everyone’s comfort, but bringing your own chair is highly recommended. Concessions will be available. The Sing organizers ask that attendees please observe COVID-19 regulations.
