Chairmen of the Board is an American-Canadian, Detroit, Michigan-based soul music group, who saw their greatest commercial success in the 1970s. Formed in Detroit , the Chairmen were one of the first acts signed by songwriting legends Holland/Dozier/Holland for their Invictus label. The group, featuring Grammy-winning songwriter and lead singer, General Johnson, recorded such classics as: "Give Me Just A Little More Time," which earned a Gold Record, "(You've Got Me) Dangling on a String," and “Pay to the Piper.” Over the years, the Chairmen of the Board were among Soul Music's most consistent hit-makers, scoring big with "Finders Keepers," "Chairman of the Board," "Everything's Tuesday,” and has become the “Kings of Beach Music” with these hits “Carolina Girls,” and “On the Beach.”
Another great part of this group is the song, Patches, it appeared on the first Chairmen of the Board album, and was co-written by General Johnson. The song wasn’t a hit until the famed blind guitarist Clarence Carter got his hands on it, and turned it into a soul classic. Johnson received a Grammy for it. Today the group continues on at the request of the founder, General Johnson, who wanted to keep the group’s legacy strong. After Johnson’s death in 2010, Ken Knox, a 38 year member of the group, along with Thomas Hunter, Brandon Stevens, and 6 musicians have more than accomplished that vision.
