The Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library will soon relocate to a temporary location while the current facility undergoes a major renovation. Beginning July 2025, library operations and a curated collection of materials will be available at the former Lipscomb’s Learning Center, located at 446 E Second in Clayton.
What’s in store?
- A dynamic, welcoming environment for learning & creativity
- Flexible seating & collaborative spaces
- Modern amenities & interactive areas
- A space that sparks conversation & fosters lifelong learning!
Construction begins in May of 2025 and will last until Summer 2026, but the library services and programs you love WILL continue in a temporary location. When construction begins, access to physical materials will be limited for a few weeks while we transition, but our digital collection remains open 24/7. We look forward to welcoming you into our temporary space (TBA) in July 2025 – until then, stay tuned!

Through educational programs for all ages, including reading programs, year-round book clubs and storytimes, the members of the Clayton community are connecting with their neighbors at the library. Come meet our staff, explore our collections, and join us for special events — all within the hand-painted walls of the Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library in Downtown Clayton.
