The weather will soon be warming, many are choosing to be vaccinated, and the state of NC is easing restrictions on many of our tourism partners. As you think about fun, safe day trips or even weekend excursions... here is a round-up of things to do in JoCo this Spring.
Picking Strawberries!
This activity is perfect for families with little ones. Johnston County has a few working farms that open their fields to pickers, or you could just show up and buy them pre-picked by the bucket. Click here for a list of berry farms and farmer's markets sure to have this sweet, red fruit. Some farms even have special events happening, which you can find an on-going list of here. Also, don't forget to mark your calendar for the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce Strawberry Festival (it will be in a fun app-based scavenger hunt format this year)!
JoCo's Beer, Wine, & Shine Trail
With the weather turning warm and breezy, Spring is a great time to enjoy the Beer, Wine, and Shine Trail. In the Spring months our family-owned, award-winning vineyards are green with grapes growing on the vine and waiting for the late Summer harvest. Sit on the porch and enjoy a chilled glass of wine and take home a bottle of your favorite. In addition, Johnston County's breweries will have special, seasonal release beers and great weekend events happening on their spacious patios. Our two distilleries are getting in on the action as well with special events including music, food trucks, and signature drinks served-up to highlight their products! Visit the Beer, Wine, Shine Trail to learn how to travel along the trail.
Explore Outdoors
For parents of young, energetic kids it's been a long winter of being cooped-up indoors due to the weather. Take the family outside to explore, play, and learn. The Neuse River also offers an excellent opportunity for canoers and kayakers. Places like Clemmons Forest and Howell Woods offer nature and wildlife learning opportunities, hands-on activities, and even camps. For a list of places in Johnston County to hike, bike, and play visit our Nature & Recreation page. And don't forget your bff (best furry friend) - JoCo has lots of pet-friendly options for those exploring with their dogs!
Discover Our Downtowns
Explore Johnston County's Downtown areas. All of our historic downtowns are very walk-able with shops, restaurants, and museums. You never know what sort of unique treats you might find, like those along our Sweet Tooth Trail; and speaking of trails, be sure to check out all our fun JoCo trails. Some of JoCo's events are starting to return, especially outdoor events like live music, history demos, and even Easter-themed events.
