An Artful Day in Clayton

Sam Branch Public ArtDowntown Clayton has become a destination for visitors who love the arts. It didn't happen overnight, but we sure are glad it did. We have put together a sample day trip itinerary for you, featuring many of the great things Clayton has to offer.

Suggested Itinerary:

9:30am Outdoor Art on Sam’s Branch Greenway

Sam's Branch Greenway is a beautiful 1.25 mile, 10-foot-wide paved pedestrian and biking trail. Along the trail visitors can enjoy an installation of public art projects. The greenway leads to the winding Neuse River and now connects with the newly dedicated Clayton River Walk on the Neuse, a 4-mile section of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail. These trails now allow families to enjoy 30+ miles of biking or hiking all the way from Clayton to Falls Dam Lake in Raleigh.

11:00am Break for some shopping

Maybe a little stroll among the downtown merchants is a good idea. Stop and shop for custom jewelry at the Jewelry Design Studio or great gifts at Rejoyce. If you are here on a Saturday (March-November) the Clayton Farm & Community Market is a wonderful stop as well. Further down, look for some unique shops for art like Right Angles Framing and Art. For some healthy options, Lee's Produce has some vegetables and fruits too! (also seasonal!)
